Alumni Weekend 2007
A great weekend to hold the 2007 Alumni festivities! FAU's past and present women's rugby alumni were united for the first time and played in the first Women's Alumni match.
The FAU Men's team played their Alumni with a few helping players following the women's match. It was a hard fought battle. First try was scored by Gordon Fisken off a beautiful switch by Alex Cook. Soon after, Alex and Jeremy Cook run a give-and-go to score again. The third try is scored by Jeremy Cook to bring the score to 17. Alumni manages to score 2 tries with both conversions made by Brendon Gray. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did!
Thanks to everyone who was involved! |

FAU vs. UNF (Spring 2007)
FAU 19 - UNF 29
The final 15s match of the season was played in Cocoa Beach this past weekend. UNF came out strong determined to take out the State Champions. FAU pulled ahead scoring 2 trys and missing 1 conversion. FAU was forced to make some changes in the forwards with Dylan Kennard as a Lock, and Everett Jones as a Flanker. Brian Trew played Number 8. UNF manages to intercept 2 passes which they used for 2 more trys. UNF also makes a penalty kick giving them a 10 point lead. FAU picked it up in the last few minutes of the game and when it was already to late in the match. It was a dissappointing game for FAU but one that will be improved on for next season.

FAU vs. Ole Miss (Spring 2007)
FAU 17 - Ole Miss 50
FAU and Ole Miss played for the USA Rugby South Championships. FAU came out strong with a 10-0 lead. The try was scored by Patrick and Alex kicked the conversion and made a penalty kick from outside the 22. Ole Miss returned scoring and a few trys and making all but one kicking conversion. FAU received a yellow card in the first half giving Ole Miss the chance to take a lead. Colby intercepts a pass through the back line and runs for a try, the conversion was made by Alex. At 36-17, two of FAU's players go into a quarrel on the field resulting in red cards. This settled Ole Miss's victory of 50-17. Ole Miss then played Arkansas State for the championship and lost 51-3. FAU held strong on some of Ole Miss's strongest players and played a mostly defensive game. This has given FAU experience they will need to return to the championships next year.

FAU vs. USF (Spring 2007)
FAU 7 - USF 0 - March 24th

They came out strong and FAU managed to score a try about 15 minutes into the first half. Leo scored the try and Alex kicked for the 2 point conversion. USF played strong but were unfortunate enough to get 2 yellow cards during the match. FAU showed strong defensive skills for the second half holding back the Bulls from scoring. Great job to both teams.

FAU vs Eckerd College (Spring 2007)
FAU 50 - Eckerd 0 - March 3rd
Eckerd College left St. Petersburg for West Palm to play FAU for the USA Playoff Match. FAU came out strong by scoring 19 points in the first match and finishing with 50 at the end of the second. Eckerd was unable to get close to the Owl's try zone. Eckerd showed class and remained organized and well-mannered even though they were unable to score any points. Great job for both the Fire Ants and the Owls on Saturday.
..FAU, Eckerd, USF, and FSU were the four teams from Florida contesting for a National Championship. Because FAU defeated Eckerd, and USF beat FSU; USF and FAU will play on March 24th which will decide who will represent Florida in the Collegiate National Championship. Good Luck to both teams. |

~The best players in College Rugby came together this weekend to represent the Florida Select Side (Team: U.N.I.T.Y.) at the 31st Annual International Ruggersfest in Ft. Lauderdale. They played excellent in all their matchs (3 for the weekend) against some of the best men's teams from all over the country. Many USA Eagles (a.k.a the national team, which will be traveling to the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.) players were representing their local clubs and at this festival. See the Collegiate Rugby tab in a few days for pictures and new links!
~FAU Women's Rugby played the powerhouse UF Gator Women's Team this past weekend at Lake Wyman. They played really hard and lots of new improvements were noticable in thier style, chemistry, and teamwork. As long as the girls can maintain their numbers (keep coming back girls its a learning process) the Gators will think twice about coming back to the Owl Burrow!
~This coming weekend start your Spring Break off with a hit! Come watch the FAU Men's Team play Eckerd College as they battle their way to the 2007 College National Championship in Stanford, California! Kickoff is at 2:00 p.m. at Henderson Fields on Saturday March 3rd. Then go to the beach, which is only a mile away! |

FAU vs. Embry-Riddle (Spring 2007)
FAU 11 - ER 10 - Feb. 17th
FAU and Embry-Riddle travel to Cocoa Beach this past weekend to play each other for the first time. ER surprised the Owls hitting hard and playing extremely well. Flyhalf Corey Penca scores a try in the first half off a grubber kick but unfortunately sprains his shoulder. Alex Cook is then moves in at flyhalf and Dylan Kennard takes over the wing. Shortly after, the Owls take a penalty kick from outside the 22 and Alex adds 3 points for the owls. The forwards played an amazing game winning alot of the opposing Line-outs and Scrums. Brian Trew held the pack strong. In the second half, the Owls recieve another penalty in kicking range outside the 22 giving Alex the opportunity to add 3 more points to the score. ER scores 2 trys and misses both conversions giving them a total of 10 points. The Owls showed alot of heart and held back ER from any additional points. Good work boys. |

FAU 24 - UCF 5(Win) - Jan. 27th

In the second half, UCF stepped up their game just and fought to score a try, but FAU's defense wouldn't allow anymore. Holding them back for most of the half, a well-earned try is scored towards the end (Jake Connelley). Thanks to UCF for giving a great match. Congrats FAU!
A B-side match was also played with a scramble of FAU, FIU, and UCF players against USF's B-side players. The FAU team played amazingly well considering most of them had just met each other. A try was scored by James from FAU. Good job guys!

FAU vs. Univ. of Miami (Fall 2006)
FAU 14 - UM 0 (Win) Oct. 28th, 2006
FAU hosted the biggest game of the season versus University of Miami's very well organized team. A night game brought out the enthusiastic fans every team needs. FAU came out strong in the beginning with a try by Jake Connelly in the first few minutes. FAU played a mostly defensive game against the Canes, where their strength and conditioning really came into play. The second try was scored by Dave Wilkinson in the beginning of the second half, both conversions were made by Gordon Fisken. This game shows that the Owls are going for the championship and will not let anyone take it away from them. Thanks to everyone who supported us this past night! |

FAU vs. FIU/Miami/Ft.Lauderdale Men's (Fall 2006)
FAU 27-FIU 18 (Win) Oct. 21st, 2006
FAU traveled to Trade Winds Park on Saturday to play FIU. The heat was unbearable and both teams definetly felt the effects. Unfortunately, FIU was short players and borrowed some of the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale Men's Club players to attempt to match up to the FAU boys. FAU came out on top with a score of 27 to the opponents 18, even though FAU experienced very difficult officiating which of course, is no excuse during the game but does pose problems.

FAU vs UF (@ Cocoa Expo Center)Fall 2006
FAU 42 - UF 7 (Win) Oct. 14th, 2006
FAU rugby traveled to Cocoa Beach this past weekend to battle University of Florida. This might possibly have been the best game the Owls have ever played, with the exception of a few missed try opportunites. They played to their potential and it showed against a heavy UF team. With nearly a shut out, UF manages to get a try with only a few minutes left in the game. There are too many people to list for Honorable Mention, which should explain how good the team worked together. Keep it up boys!!!
The FAU Women's team also traveled to battle a strong Florida State team. Although they lost, they showed their courage and effort to not give up against the Noles nearly stopping them in the second half. Try scored by Molly Barrett. Watch out for the lady owls! |

FAU takes charge again
March 4 FAU 27 vs UM 10
FAU and University of Miami, the two teams tied for 1st place battled it out at Henderson Field on Saturday. Miami came out strong with the first try, but FAU responded with trys by Matt Kent (2), Patrick Bordner, Jake Connelly, and Kenny Moore with a conversion by Ignacio Ramos during the incredibly windy game. It was a good game that reinforced how stong of a team FAU is. FAU's B-side also played a great game against Miami's almost completely A-side team.

Another successful weekend
February 18 FAU 38 vs UNF 07 Saturday, at the Orlando fields, FAU faced the University of North Florida. With a good pitch and a perfect weather, FAU kicked off for a good first half. UNF didn't play at their best, and FAU made them pay for it. The seconf half came with a slower FAU, but still managed to score 38 points. Florida Atlantic University sums 4 wins this season, positioning itself in first place. Now, the FAU ruggers get ready for the toughest game yet -FSU- playing this coming Saturday at Gainsville (UF). FAU scored 5 tries, 2 conversions and 3 penalties. The B side played another good game, with a diffiicult opponent again. A combined of FIU, UNF, and FSU. The boys gave their best, showing once again excelent defense and a better offense. Highlights by Sean Ayers, Thomas Falk, and Nolan Gillam. Unstoppable
February 11 FAU 47 vs Eckerd College 00 The FAU ruggers sum up to 3 wins this season, and look better than ever. This weekend, as locals in the Palm Beach fields, our ruggers played against Eckerd College, an aggresive team with good defense but not prepared enough for FAU. With tries by Alex Cook (2), Matt Kent, Justin McAuley, Scot Parr, Ignacio Ramos (1 try 6 conversions), FAU prepares for UNF at UCF. The B side game against a combined of Buccaneers and Tridents (men's teams), came out as a very violent and intense game. Our ruggers played to their top of their level, defending their ingoal like no men's team would have expected. We impressed with our level of intensity and showing as usual no fear for the challenge. The combined scored in the last minute, and the match ended in an undeserved 5-0 for the combined. A-side man of the match: Alex Cook B-side man of the match: --
